If I were you, I'd use RichView package with Rubicon (http://tamaracka.com/).

There are components (Delphi and C++ Builder) for writing the search engine

in this package. What's more Rubicon supports the following database engines:

Borland BDE (TTable & TQuery)

ADO

Advantage Database Server

Apollo

Direct Oracle Access

DBISAM

dbExpress (beta)

FlashFiler

Halcyon

InterBase Express

InterBase Objects

ODBC Express

Topaz

Other SQL Servers via the BDE

Really great package.
