I asked because there was a memory leak issue with TBlobStream and databases

at least in Delphi 4.03 (which I still use at the moment, dunno for D5 and

6), which could only be solved by changing VCL source. DBISAM uses its own

TDBISAMBlobStream instead, which - according to the docs - is the preferred

for saving and loading data to a DBISAM table. There were one or two other

issues which had to do with adapting 3rd party comps for use with DBISAM,

but I can't find the information at the moment.
