mail merge a table with a variable number of rows

I have mail merge working beautifully [using the {} tag solution], but now I

need to add additional functionality.

Specifically I have do perform what is a detail query for each letter and

insert a multi column  table with an unknown number of rows [usually only

two to six rows] at a specified insertion point.

Can you recommend an approach to solve this problem and if possible sample

code would be wonderful.
